A new research paper found that people who let their dogs and cats sleep in their bed and get too affectionate with them may be in danger of getting sick.

More than 60% of American households have a pet, and depending on the survey, 14% to 62% let their dogs and cats sleep with them. That can be dangerous, says Bruno Chomel, a professor at the University of California-Davis school of veterinary medicine.

“There are private places in the household, and I think our pets should not go beyond next to the bed,” Chomel says. “Having a stuffed animal in your bed is fine, not a real one.”

There’s plague (yes, bubonic plague, i.e. the Black Death); chagas disease, which can cause life-threatening heart and digestive system disorders; and cat-scratch disease, which can also come from being licked by infected cats. Though many people love getting licked or planting a kiss on a pet, it may not be such a good idea, the authors say.

We’ve always wondered if this was okay….so much for the whole dogs mouth is cleaner thing.  Save it Fido!

Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration.

Even after all these Android  and Windows smartphones are out, Apple still has a strong hold in the Smartphone market, and a strong following.

As far as we know the Droid X is basically an Evo 4G killer and if it’s anything like the excellent Droid. Why are they announcing this thing so soon? I suspect it’s Android fatigue. People have so many devices to choose from right now they’re probably loathe depend on the buzz generated naturally and need to goose things a little.

As you know by now, Disneyworld is planning to relaunch the Star Wars ride Star Tours with a new 3D verision in 2011.  We now know when Star Wars 2 will launch:

• May 10th 2011 in Walt Disneyland in Anaheim (current ride closes on September 8th 2010)
• May 17th 2011 in Walt Disneyworld in Orlando (current ride closes on July 27th 2010)

So if you’re planning a trip to one of the Disney theme parks in 2011, you now know when to plan the tip. And for those of you who want to tour Endor one last time before the ride becomes 3D/Prequel-ized, LucasFilm is holing a special event to celebrate the end of the original Star Tours ride

In a new interview Rihanna confirms that the guy we’ve been seeing her vacating with baseball player Matt Krmp is in fact her new boo.  Here’s what she tells Ryan Seacrest:

“Umm, he’s my boyfriend.  It’s new, and it’s fun, and it’s nothing too serious, you know. I don’t want anything that’s going to take up so much of my energy and time right now in a bad way. I just want to have fun, and that’s what it’s about.”

So she’s not engaged but she’s not looking for a rude boy….

Called “Drift,” Nissan Canada’s latest commercial for the Sentra SE-R features nothing but 1/10 scale RC cars. The epic ad was even filmed using other RC cars and an RC helicopter. Sounds more fun than driving a Nissan Sentra SE-R.

Nissan has a history of shooting incredible commercials with RC cars and this is certainly no exception. We’re a little curious if the 1/10th SE-R in question is actually AWD instead of the big one’s FWD, but after watching it drift under a Frontier we find ourselves not caring so much. Sad. Legendary musician Phil Collins tells Rolling Stone that despite working to finish off his new album of covers, the nerve damage he has suffered make it almost impossible for him to do anything with his hands.

“The first time I picked up the drum sticks after my neck surgery, they flew across the room because I couldn’t grip them.  When I play, I’ve had to tape the sticks to my hand. It’s like wearing a condom. It’s very strange. It really cramps your style. I can’t let go of the spoon or the knife when I eat.  I can’t open a car door. I won’t get gruesome with you, but there’s a lot of things I can’t do. I’m left handed. I’m having an operation soon and there’s a good chance of it improving over time.”

Hopefully Phil can find a miracle cure somehow.
